> Owner/Founder Richard Brown discovers lime on Coonoor and Browns Quality Lime begins.
Owner/operator Richard Brown, after farming at Coonoor for 28 years, realised the potential of agricultural lime which was present in abundance on the family farm, and in 1995 first openned Browns Quality Lime on a small scale.
A storage shed was built and most of the equipment was hired. Due to increasing demands for ag lime, a second and larger building was erected. The farm was leased out and the quarrying of lime became a full time occupation;.
> Automated drying system installed.
In the year 2000 Browns Lime took a big jump and installed a drier which fully automated the processing of ag lime. To this day we are the only lime quarry in the lower North Island using a drying plant.
> New quality lime product developed.
In 2002 we discovered a layer of rock not suitable for agriculture lime, but it has proven to be an excellent product for dairy races, roads and any other service where a solid base is required. It was at this stage we engaged a supply contract with Ravensdown Fertiliser Company.
